Dog Days of Summer Photo Contest

Lincoln and Jenny would like to announce
The Cedars House “Dog Days of Summer”
Summer Photo Contest!

Snap a pic of your pup enjoying the Wissahickon and tag @thecedarshouse on Facebook or Instagram to enter. Lincoln and Jenny will pick finalists August 11th and public voting will take place August 12-30.

The Dog Days of Summer refers to the 20 days before and 20 days after Sirius “the Dog Star” aligns with the Sun, between July 3rd through August 11th. Sirius is the second brightest star in our sky after the Sun, and can be found at the tip of the constellation, Canis Major, or The Great Dog. You can best locate Sirius by gazing down in a straight line from Orion’s belt, which almost seems to point to his guard dog. When you’ve located Canis Major, look to the right and notice Lepus, the rabbit constellation eternally hunted by The Great Dog.

Some say “Dog Days” refers to the days dogs will go crazy in the heat- but don’t forget, we always have free water available for thirsty pups and their humans at The Cedars House!
