July in the Park! 2018

Special Holiday Hours:
Wednesday, July 4th, The Cedars House will be open 9am-2pm.

Forbidden Drive has been cleared in front of the House!
Wonderful job done by the arborists sent by the City of Philadelphia and a special thank you to the Friends of the Wissahickon volunteers.

Thank you to everyone, for your sharing your sympathy, sorrow, hopes, concerns and well wishes with us over the last week. We appreciate the outpouring of support and love for The Cedars House. There are some ideas floating around about how to rejuvenate the areas affected that will open some volunteer opportunities in the future. There’s no words to express how meaningful it is to have so many customers offer to lend a hand so we can resume operations.
Unfortunately, we must wait for the trunk and root system are removed from the property. The back patio and picnic tables are roped off, please do not enter either of these areas.

July Fitness Classes

Tai Chi & Qigong
Hasan Rucker
Sunday Mornings 9am
Meet at the Fallen Tree

Hasan Rucker teaches ancient and contemporary energy-based movement art forms.
His unique blend of training methods are fueled by a desire to find the link
between physical activity and human spirituality.

During each workout, the movements of Tai Chi and Qigong exercise every muscle, ligament, tendon and joint of the body.

Tai Chi (also taiji) was developed in China as a very effective martial art.
Most people both in China and the West practice Tai Chi not for combat but rather as a potent health exercise. Unlike many exercises, tai chi/taiji can be done by anyone who can stand up.Safe for all ages, body types and fitness levels.

Qigong (alternatively spelled chi gung or chi kung) is a form of gentle exercise composed of movements that are repeated a number of times, often stretching the body, increasing fluid movement (blood, synovial and lymph) and building awareness of how the body moves.

Hasan studied ancient practices abroad; including Kung Fu, Tai Chi, Qigong, Meditation, and Yoga. He is certified by the National Strength & Conditioning Association, American Aerobic Association International, and the International Sports Medicine Association. Hasan earned a B.S. in Kinesiology – Exercise Physiology from West Chester University and currently serves as a Holistic Services Supervisor at Girard Medical Center.

Discover how cross-training with yoga can bring sustainability to your sport/activity, reduce risk of injury, and enhance your performance.

This class is open to any and all who like to move. You don’t need to have a regular yoga practice to participate but come ready to work and be challenged in this fun and educational class. We’ll work on ways to strengthen, stabilize, and safely stretch important muscle groups with a routine you can take home with you.

Feel free to run, bike, hike, or walk to class on the scenic Forbidden Drive trails that lead to The Cedars House. Stay for a free cup of coffee afterward and save 10% on lunch at the cafe if you like!

Anne Williams has been practicing yoga for 8 years, teaching for 5 of them and comes from a background of playing collegiate sports. She has practiced and taught different styles of yoga from hatha, various forms of vinyasa flow, to restorative.

Anne draws from the feeling of both ease & power in slow movements with an awareness of caution & concern for safety – after herself recovering a few times from past injuries. She teaches a style of yoga that focuses on strength and function in the body. Her classes include elements of functional body mechanics, lots of core, range of motion, and focus on alignment.

Preregister and save on Eventbrite. Drop in fee of $10 can be accepted by cash payment at the beginning of class.
