Attn: FOW Safety Incident Report 8/24
On Aug. 23, a female runner was assaulted around 6:30 pm in the southern/East Falls portion of the Wissahickon Bike Trail.
In what they are calling a random attack, police have arrested two teenage males, who the woman said harassed and jumped her.
Police say they are increasing patrols along the trail.
While Wissahickon Valley Park is a remarkable place to get away from it all, we’re still in a big city. Despite our best efforts, sometimes things happen. We want all our visitors to have fun and be safe, so please remember these important tips:
- Exercise with someone whenever possible. If going it alone, stay aware of your surroundings.
- Trust your instincts. If you sense trouble, leave. Report any suspicious activity or crimes to the police via 911. Help Locators are listed on new signs posted throughout the park at major trail intersections.
Friends Of The Wissahickon posts crime alerts as necessary, so sign up for text alerts by texting WISS to (267)966-2207.
